“Writing Scientific Paper: Format, Submission, and Publication” by Dr. Kishor Kumar Adhikari and Dr. Durga Bastakoti

I. Introduction:

Scientific writing is a powerful tool for communicating among researchers about the results of scientific investigations. Higher education is involved in scientific research works besides academic classroom activities. Students engaged in engineering education are bound to get involved in scientific ways of reflecting acquired knowledge through classroom teachings and practical sessions. Institute of Engineering has already set its goal-oriented towards enhancing academic excellence for which emphasizing research work as its integral part leads to an immediate need for educating students, new and recent final year students, to get training based knowledge on scientific paper writing. This leads to a need for continuous training sessions on writing a research paper, adapted to publication in journals and/or presentation in conferences, be it national or international. And, the starting should be focused on writings’ format, its ethical issues and norms, and the benefits of publication. Thus, a training session on “Writing Scientific Paper: Format, Submission and Publication” is proposed in Pashchimanchal Campus targeted to B.E. final year students, Master Degrees’ students and interested faculties of the campus.
This training program will help participants get knowledge on communicating through research papers thereby presenting information so that it is easy to retrieve and present enough information that the reader can duplicate the scientific study in a worldwide accepted format. Since this trend is not well established on this campus but has high potential, format along with ethical issues involved would be put forward in sessions of the proposed training program. Since final year students of Bachelor program will be having mandatory final year projects, they are assured of getting involved in research or scientific project works, which needs a communication platform to expand the audience and also to get more comprehensive feedback. It is high time, in the context of the need of publication for graduating in Masters program of IOE, a training focused on facilitating students to get involved in scientific paper writing. This training program will be beneficial not only for B.E. final year students but also for Masters Degree students to get acquainted with scientific work and its publication procedure. Interested faculties are also duly requested to be involved in the training session as trainees.
